I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19 DEVOTION: Jesus is the way into the very presence of God (John 14:6). Though Him, we have access to the blessings of the Abrahamic covenant (Galatians 3:14). How much of these blessings have you received? Jesus Christ is also the way forward in life; He is the way where none exists. After the children of Israel left Egypt, at God’s command, they stopped at the Red Sea. While they were by the Red Sea, the Egyptians came chasing hard after them. From the look of things, they had reached their wits’ end. They could not go into the sea, and they could not turn back either (Exodus 14:1-18). They began to cry to Moses, and Moses cried to God. The Lord told them to go forward. He became the way across the sea, and they went through. Are you stuck like the Israelites? Do you feel you have exhausted all known avenues and possibilities? Does it appear there is no other way into your destination? Rejoice! There is still a way in! Jesus is the way that can take you to your destination where all else has failed. He will surely take you into your place of joy, blessing and favour. It is amazing to know that the Lord can go as far as creating new things in old situations in order to make a way that takes you to your place of desire. He gave His word of assurance on this in Isaiah 43:19: “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” As long as the Way works in your favour, be prepared to see new things. If you desire to access promotion, but all existing seats on your next level are occupied, invite the Way in. He can create a new position for you. He can give you superiors the idea of a new department and move you into it. There is no limitation to the new things He can create just to make a way for you. Have the enemies blocked the way into your expected desire? The Lord will create a fresh way for you. He will do a new thing that will accommodate your good desires. As long as you have the Way with you, there are limitless possibilities for you. Prayer Father, I thank You for the limitless opportunities at my disposal, and for always making a way for me in all situations,in Jesus wonderful name. PRAISE & WORSHIP: THAT SWEET SAVOUR UNTO THE LORD *AS FROM THE LORD FROM THE COMMENTARY EXODUS 5:21 H7381 reah from H7306 odor (as if blown):-- savour, scent, smell. H7306 ruah a primitive root; properly to blow, i.e., breathe, only (literally) to smell or (by implication) perceive (figuratively to anticipate, enjoy):--accept, smell, touch, make of quick understanding. (19) “AND THE OFFICERS OF THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL DID SEE THAT THEY WERE IN EVIL CASE, AFTER IT WAS SAID, YOU SHALL NOT MINISH OUGHT FROM YOUR BRICKS OF YOUR DAILY TASK. (20) “AND THEY MET MOSES AND AARON, WHO STOOD IN THE WAY, AS THEY CAME FORTH FROM PHARAOH: (21) “AND THEY SAID UNTO THEM, THE LORD LOOK UPON YOU, AND JUDGE; BECAUSE YOU HAVE MADE OUR SAVOUR TO BE ABHORRED IN THE EYES OF PHARAOH, AND IN THE EYES OF HIS SERVANTS, TO PUT A SWORD IN THEIR HAND TO SLAY US. The second part of the first sentence in Verse 22 should read thus: “Lord, wherefore have You suffered Your people to be so evil entreated?” 2. The opposition of Pharaoh, and the unbelief and anger of Israel were a double discouragement for Moses. 3. The first effort of a Christian to do good is often chilled by similar unbelief on the part of the Church, and by opposition on the part of the world. THE COMPLAINT OF THE PEOPLE Verses 19 through 21 read: “And the officers of the Children of Israel did see that they were in evil case, after it was said, You shall not minish ought from your bricks of your daily task. “And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh: “And they said unto them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; because you have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.” The people now criticize Moses, and in essence, through Moses, criticize the Lord. Moses was no doubt prepared for the rebuff which he had himself received from Pharaoh, for the Lord had plainly said that He would harden the king’s heart. But, so far as the inspired record informs us, nothing had been told him that he would meet with discouragement and opposition from his own brethren. A real testing was this for God’s servant, for it is far more trying to be criticized by our own Brethren, by those whom we are anxious to help, than it is to be persecuted by the world. But sufficient for the servant to be as his master. The Lord Himself was hated by His Own Brethren according to the flesh, and the very ones to whom He had ministered in ceaseless Grace unanimously cried, “Crucify Him” (Pink). THE LORD Verses 22 and 23 read: “And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, LORD, wherefore have You so evil entreated this people? Why is it that You have sent me? “For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your Name, He has done evil to this people; neither have You delivered Your people at all.” We may well question how far genuine faith, or a mortified will, dictated the “where fore” and the “why” of Moses, in the above quotation? Still, the Lord does not rebuke a remonstrance drawn forth by the intense pressure of the moment. By contrast, the Lord, as we shall see in the next Chapter, graciously replies to Moses. To Moses’ credit, he did take his problem to the Lord, even though his words were not exactly Faith-filled. We erroneously tend to think that when the Lord is about to do something for us, everything will suddenly smooth out. All the pieces expertly fall into place, and everything seems to function exactly as it ought to function. It is seldom that way, however! It should be understood that Satan doesn’t desire the Lord to do anything for anyone. And whenever a Saint of God begins to believe God for something, the Evil One then seeks to hinder, and to hinder greatly, this which the Lord is about to do. He tries to get the Believer to grow discouraged, to complain, hopefully, to quit. A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE Just this morning, one of my associates called me and informed me that one of our Radio Stations was once again off the air. We have had more trouble with that particular Station, than all the other Stations we have put together. It seems like something breaks down every single week, or even more often. Even though it’s disconcerting, discouraging, and exasperating, I believe that the Lord is mightily going to use that particular Station, which is our largest incidentally, to touch a tremendous number of people for the cause of Christ; consequently, Satan is doing everything he can to hinder and to hurt. But he will not succeed! “O Christ, what burdens bowed Your head: “Our load was laid on Thee; “You stood in the sinner’s stead “To bear all ill for me. “A victim led, Your Blood was shed! “Now there’s no load for me.” “Death and the curse were in our cup; “O Christ ’twas full for Thee! “But You have drained the last dark drop, “’Tis empty now for me; “That bitter cup, love drank it up, “Now blessings draught for me.” “Jehovah lifted up His rod: “O Christ it fell on Thee! “You were sore stricken of Thy God; “There’s not one stroke for me.” “Your tears, Your Blood, beneath it flowed; “Your bruising healed me.” “The tempest’s awful voice was heard; “O Christ it broke on Thee! “Your open bosom was my ward, “It braved the storm for me. “Your form was scarred, Your visage marr’d, “Now cloudless peace for me.” “Jehovah bade His sword awake: “O Christ, it woke ’gainst Thee; “Your Blood the flaming blade must slake, “Your heart its sheath must be. “All for my sake, my peace to make: “Now sleeps that sword for me.” “For me, Lord Jesus, You have died, “And I have died in Thee: “You are risen my bands are untied; “And now You live in me; “When purified, made white, and tried, “Your Glory then for me.”
